This years event was held at the Runaway Bay Sports Park on 24th July. The event ran from 7pm to 7am and we had 46 people come and support us with 25 hardy people who stayed the whole night.
It was a tremendous evening with a broad cross section of people attending, from families and their kids to Politicians. We do need to thank Stuart Robert MP, he told us what we needed to do and pointed us in the right direction when this idea first got started, and right in the middle of election time he came and slept out all night - top effort!
We also owe a debt of gratitude to the volunteers who manned the soup kitchen (the soup was great guys!). 19 Volunters form the Salvation Army and the Rotary Club came out and looked after us all night. Captain Tracey Schultz of the Southport Crisis Accomodation Center put up with our inexperience from the start - no wonder people talk so highly of you Tracey, what you do for the homeless and those in needs is truly inspirational and we are honored to support your efforts.
For our first year it was a huge success and we are looking forward to doing it again next year!!
Funds RaisedFunds raised for the night was $10,000, with an additional $1,500 after the event. We are aiming to raise $20,000 in total, so please keep the donations coming and help us achieve this goal.
It only remains for us to say a huge thank you to everybody who made this possible. The Council for letting us have their field for the night, shopping centers for allowing us to raise funds, Office Works for allowing us to do the sausage sizzle (and some of their customers forgiving us for serving spicey sausages by accident), but most of all we want to thank those who made the effort to come out on the night and those who put their hands in their pockets to make donations. Sometimes we can get a little synical and believe no one cares, we experienced this from some while organising this event, but as long as there are people who will give up their time and money in a good humoured an unselfish way, then there will always be freinds for those less fortunate. Thanks again
We know that you are dying to register for next year, so head off to the front page and sign up, if you already haven't!!! See you then! |
